About Bacteriophage
Discovery

Frederick William Twort (22 October 1877 – 20 March 1950) was an English bacteriologist who studied medicine at St Thomas'. He published in 1915 in The Lancet his observations of the destruction of staphylococci by phages.

Félix D'Hérelle (April 25, 1873 – February 22, 1949), a French Canadian researcher, made similar, independent observations and applied his knowledge to to the treatment of infections during WW2.
Both men's discoveries were neglected because of the success of antibiotics.
